🦋 The Pastor's New Car
The Pastor's New Car
In a suburban church in Trinidad, members saved sacrificially for months to support a "community outreach fund." They imagined groceries for the elderly, school supplies for children, and repairs for storm-damaged roofs.
One Sunday, the pastor arrived in the parking lot with a new luxury car.
"God has blessed me through your faithfulness," he said.
Silence spread like a spill.
Over the next weeks, giving plummeted. Volunteers withdrew. The outreach program delayed indefinitely. The people felt duped, not because the pastor prospered, but because their sacrifice had been misdirected.
Months later, the church held a meeting.
A deacon said, "We weren't robbed of money. We were robbed of trust."
A lesson carved in pain: generosity cannot survive where stewardship is broken.
Reflection: Generosity withers wherever stewardship breaks trust.
This, too, is Butterfly Faith.
