🦋 The Pastor's Closet
The Pastor's Closet
In a well-lit suburban church, the missions board celebrated its overseas donations. Posters showed wells, schools, and smiling children. But one evening, the janitor found a note slipped under the sanctuary door: "Please pray—I cannot afford insulin this month."
The note came from one of their own ushers. When the deacons read it, silence fell heavier than guilt. They had built global reach but ignored local need.
The next day of corporate worship, the pastor preached from Galatians 6:9 — "Let us not grow weary in doing good." He confessed from the pulpit, "We have grown weary of seeing what is right before us." The church formed a quiet benevolence fund called The Closet, where members could discreetly meet one another's needs.
Today, its shelves hold medicine, grocery cards, and prayer journals. No cameras, no reports—just neighbors caring for neighbors.
Reflection: When compassion begins at home, missions find their heart again.
This, too, is Butterfly Faith.
