🦋 The Donor's Blueprint
The Donor's Blueprint
When the new youth center opened, its walls gleamed with the engraved name of its benefactor. The donor had given the entire sum—generously—but also a three-page "vision statement" specifying programs, paint colors, and staffing policies.
At first, gratitude covered discomfort. Then conflict began. The youth wanted a dance night; the donor forbade it. The pastor suggested a Bible-study lounge; the donor vetoed "unproductive use of space." The building filled with rules but not laughter.
Months later, the donor's business collapsed. In shame, he withdrew. Without his oversight, the young people painted over the brass plaque and wrote instead in chalk: "Open hands, open doors." They held their first worship night barefoot on the floor.
When the donor returned years later, he found the chalk inscription still there. He wept, joined their singing, and later said, "I built a center; they built a community."
Reflection: When giving builds walls instead of windows, God gently redraws the blueprint.
This, too, is Butterfly Faith.
